Centering Black Grief

June 11, 2020,

In collaboration with the Fulton and Dekalb County Remembrance Projects ( in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative), in my role at Compassionate Atlanta, we held a call on Centering Black Grief. This was in response to the overwhelming feelings of grief in the Black community about the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police in Minneapolis, MN. Please listen to me set up the call and invite people into the space. I discuss the difference between lament and grief. After this we separated people into two groups. All Black people went into one zoom room and all Non-Black people went into the other zoom room. It turns out, that was a brilliant idea. We now hold these grief calls monthly.
